Born in Essen, Germany in 1981, Sebastian Breuing studied music education and conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Köln, where his teachers were Marcus Creed (conducting) and Pi-Hsien Chen (piano).

Already at the time of his studies he worked as a musical director at the “Junge Kammeroper Köln” (Cologne Chamber Opera), where he conducted several performances of Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” and “Cosi fan tutte” as well as “Orphée aux enfers” by Jacques Offenbach.

As a result of an intensive examination of early music, he founded the “Cölner Barockorchester” in 2006. Under his direction an independent series of concerts by the ensemble was started, which is especially dedicated to the work of Johann Sebastian Bach.

A further emphasis lies on his work as a vocal coach and accompanist. He eminently benefited from guidance of singers like Edda Moser, Arthur Janzen, Kai Wessel and Christoph Prégardien at the Hochschule für Musik Köln.

In 2008, Sebastian Breuing was musical director of Mozart’s “La Finta Giardiniera” at the Theater Bonn. Last summer he has been invited by the Festival d’Art Lyrique in Aix-en-Provence to work as an assistant conductor in the production of “Zaide” by W.A.Mozart with Louis Langrée, Peter Sellars and the Camerata Salzburg. In 2009, he was reinvited by the Festival to work as a pianist and vocal coach for the Académie européenne de musique, in the "Mozart-Haydn-Residency" and as the assitant of Helmut Deutsch during the "Residency Lied".

Since 2008 he has been engaged at the Hochschule für Musik Köln as the assistant of Marcus Creed.
